I was born at the early age of three in Carbonear, a small fishing town in the hub of Conception Bay, Newfoundland. My mother and father hail from Northern Bay and Gull Island respectively. These are two even smaller neighbouring outports just 15 miles from my birthplace.
At the tender age of five, my family moved to the thriving metropolis of St. John’s. It was here I received my formal education which ended abruptly half way through a Masters degree in Folklore from Memorial University of Newfoundland. I really enjoyed university, but it’s hard to maintain good grades when you are touring 90% of the time. I hope someday to go back and finish what I started for I still have much to learn.
It was in University that I met my three partners in crime: Bob, Alan, and Darrell. Together, armed with English degrees and a variety of traditional instruments, we set out to conquer the world (or at least see it). It has proved to be quite an experience. My only regret is I have to spend so much time away from my beloved Newfoundland.
I love to cook and haven’t poisoned anyone yet. I attribute this passion to my mother who has sustained me for years on homemade bread and a wealth of culinary delights. I enjoy being outdoors. Hiking and mountain biking are 2 of my favourite pastimes --- even in the fog! I listen to all kinds of music except commercial pop. If its on the radio, I probably haven’;t heard it. I have two brothers, Glenn and Kevin, who spend most of their time looking after me. The single biggest inspiration in my life has come from my parents, Edward and Anita, who support me in all I do. I only hope I can grow to be more like them.
I was born on May 22nd which means I’m a hopelessly confused schizophrenic Gemini. My favourite colour is Green.
